Summer wrap-up

Hello all,

Fall is definitely in the air this week, but we are happy to hold on to summer for another couple of weeks. Beginning after Labour Day we will be taking just two trips out daily, at 8:00 am and 1:15 pm. If you were hoping for a sunset trip this year you should go soon.

If you haven’t already, make sure to fill out our survey for a chance to win two deep-sea fishing passes. It’s really important to us to know what you thought about your fishing experience. Check it out, at
http://peifishing.wordpress.com/survey-win/
.

Let’s cross our fingers that warm weather lasts into September. We hope to see you at the wharf!

Filled out our survey yet?

The summer is drawing to a close and there is only one week left to fill out our customer survey for the chance to win two adult deep sea fishing passes. The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and the passes will be valid for this summer or next – it would make a great excuse for a return visit to PEI ;) .

The draw will be made THIS FRIDAY (August 31) for all who have filled out our survey.

You can access the survey at
http://peifishing.wordpress.com/survey-win/
or by clicking the link above.

Best of luck to all, we appreciate your feedback!

From Sea to Stove

Many visitors ask, “What is the best way to cook the fish I’ve caught?”

Once you get to shore, the first mate and captain will have already cleaned and fileted the cod and mackerel, and it is up to you to do the cooking. There are many ways to prepare the fish and although you can freeze them, both are best when eaten fresh.

Chef Michael Smith (Fortune, PEI) has an excellent recipe for pan-fried fish:
http://chefmichaelsmith.com/Recipe/pan-fried-whitefish/
Pan-frying is a great way to cook fresh fish while retaining the taste.

If you don’t want to get too fancy, you can simply pan-fry your mackerel (skin down) with just lemon juice squirted over the top. This method also works great with the fish straight on the BBQ grill.

For cod, the best way to cook them is to make a packet out of tinfoil and cook the cod with butter, onions, and your choice of spices on the BBQ or in the oven.

Our friend Daniel sent us pictures of of his fresh-cooked Mackerel meal.

Fresh Mackerel in the frying pan.

The finished product! Hungry?

If you don’t have time to come fishing with us you can also pick up fresh fish next door, at Doiron’s Fish Market. They can be reached at (902) 963-2442.

Enjoy your weekend and happy fishing!

Just one month left for Cod!

August is half over and that means there is just one month left of deep-sea fishing for cod here on PEI. The summer has flown by but we hope the sunshine and warm weather last for a few more weeks. We expect to have a good shoulder season this year as the cod fishery is open until September 16th and they are usually at their peak in the fall.

I’ll share some pictures taken on the past few trips. We’ve continued to have the sunniest of days and lots of mackerel and cod.

If you are hoping to get out fishing before the summer ends you should go soon! Visit http://www.peifishing.com for more information and reservations.

Enjoy these last weeks of summer.

Dog days of summer

Hello all,

We hear from many of our visitors how incredibly hot it’s been in central Canada, but for us, just this 30+ degree heat is insane. We Islanders are used to a nice breeze coming off the water to keep our temperatures down, and we aren’t sure what to do with ourselves now that breeze is failing us.

Lucky for us in North Rustico, we can go out on the water and get a bit of a relief while we catch cod and mackerel on the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

We hope you aren’t suffering from the heat this summer. The best thing for it is a sail with Aiden’s Deep Sea Fishing. If you can’t do that.. I hope you have air conditioning.

Beautiful Boats

Hello all,

We have had a very busy weekend in North Rustico and are looking forward to more of the same as we go full steam ahead for the remainder of August. Catching cod and mackerel is easy work with such a great captain and crew.

As it was so busy over the weekend we didn’t get a chance to take pictures of our visitors fishing. We spent our time helping to unload the catch, cleaning the fish, and keeping you entertained on the sail. We were fortunate to have one of our friends send in some pictures of our two boats, the Lexi D and Papa’s Gem.

If you haven’t yet sailed with us on either the Lexi D or the Papa’s Gem, you really should. Both are government-approved vessels, equipped with life jackets and rods for up to twenty people. There is a washroom aboard each boat, and lots of room for sitting and fishing. The captains and first mates keep their boat incredibly clean, and as I type this I can see them behind the building giving everything a wash after their morning trip.

We look forward to sharing the fishing experience with you on our boats. Call us for information and reservations, toll-free at 1-866-510-3474.

Happy fishing!

Already August!

Wow. Summer is half over, it is hard to believe.

It is time to stop putting off all the plans you have been making, and start doing/seeing/exploring. We have been really busy this past week, with people doing just that. Lots of visitors and locals are making the most of this wonderful weather and are heading out to catch cod and mackerel while enjoying the coast of Prince Edward Island.

Here are some pictures from over the weekend, enjoy!

Thanks for checking us out, and have a wonderful day.

Kissin’ Cod, July 26, 2012

Kissing cod fish is supposed to bring good luck.. A few of our fishers gave it a try yesterday, we will have to wait to hear back if they won any lotteries after.

We had a great day, hopefully there will be many more with similar weather and wonderful people fishing.

Enjoy the weekend.

Mid-Summer Fishing

Good afternoon from sunny North Rustico.

Summer has been so nice here so far, and we’ve just wrapped up another perfect weekend. We finally got rain to please the farmers, but it’s fallen mostly at night which keeps us fishers happy.

Here are some pictures taken over the weekend, with a few from early July that Kathy Brown emailed to us (thanks Kathy!).

I hope that your summer is going as well as ours is, and that the fish are biting wherever you are.
